The program required a “Public Library”, so we tried to give the construction the most public appearance we could.
To achieve this goal, we transformed the plaza facing the site into a “Big Garden”, and then we brought it, like a skin, gradually over the building. This skin works as a ramp in order to invite the people to, literally, walk the place and get a closer approach to the books.
By making some perforations in the surface, we link interior and exterior promoting the interaction of the people with the library activities encouraging them to enter the building. These perforations offer the necessary natural lighting for the reading areas.
